Get to know Rob Gardner, our Head of Finance and Operations!

Hi Rob, welcome to Grow Asia! Can you share a brief overview of your professional journey leading up to your role with us?

I have more than a decade of experience in international NGO financial management, working in various financial and HR roles for Doctors without Borders, VSO International, Doctors of the World, and most recently as Regional Finance and Administration Manager for Asia for the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue in the Singapore regional office. Prior to that, I worked in both the corporate sector in finance & business planning, and the public sector in financial management reform.

What excites you the most about joining Grow Asia?

I am excited about having another regional role but with more responsibility. I am very interested in the work of Grow Asia, particularly the adaptation for climate change and resilience for agriculture, due to the overlap with previous work on environmental peace-making. The work of Grow Asia will go far to mitigate the need for such peace-making, so it’s a bit of the old and a bit of the new.

If you could have dinner with any person (dead or alive, fictional or non-fictional), who would they be, and why?

Dinner with Henry Ford would be my choice. I grew up with the Ford brand, as my father was a manager of a Ford dealership most of his life. It’s not so much about the cars, but he was a pioneer in many areas. He can be credited with the assembly line, mass production, the five-day working week, franchising, and one of the most affordable and durable products made – the Model T was ubiquitous in its time.
